| Biochem/physiol Actions | Proline is a cyclic, non-essential, hydrophobic amino acid.It is a proteinogenic amino acid which is crucial for primary metabolism.In peptide chains, proline residues confer structural constraints and enhance the susceptibility of proximal peptide bonds to protease activity. |
| Application | L-proline has been used as a component of high-glucose-Dulbecco′s modified Eagle′s medium (HG-DMEM) for chondrocyte differentiation and for the culture of chondrocyte-like cells.It has also been used as a component of yeast nitrogen base for yeast cultures. |
